10 Ways to Care for Yourself When Life Feels Heavy

This is Sunny…my friend Deborah’s sweet dog.

When you’re struggling, big solutions feel overwhelming.
These are small, doable ways to support yourself—especially during emotionally charged seasons
.

1. Simplify Your Expectations

Not every tradition needs to be honored. Choose what truly matters.

2. Keep a Basic Routine

Eating, sleeping, and moving at regular times helps stabilize emotions.

3. Stay Connected to What You Believe In

Prayer, meditation, nature, journaling—return to whatever reminds you that you’re part of something bigger.

4. Limit Emotional Overload

Say no to draining conversations, events, or social media spirals.

5. Write It Out

Put thoughts on paper so they don’t live rent-free in your head.

6. Nourish Yourself (Without Guilt)

Eat the cookie. Drink the soup. Comfort matters.

7. Reach Out to One Person

You don’t need a group—just one safe human.

8. Do One Small Thing You Enjoy

Read, bake, watch something familiar. Pleasure is not indulgent—it’s restorative.

9. Rest Without Explaining

You don’t owe productivity or cheerfulness to anyone.

10. Ask for Help When Needed

Therapy, support groups, or trusted friends are tools—not signs of weakness.
